The Story Behind the Martini Mama Series

I didn’t start drinking alcohol until I was forty. Yes, I know – I’m a late bloomer! Oh, I tried beer, wine, mixed drinks and occasionally I tolerated a Khula Sombraro but none of these ever were all that appealing. Then, one evening my husband and I were having dinner the Brookstone Grille with my best friend, Janet, and her boyfriend. I saw this gorgeous purple drink, garnished with a sparkly sugar rim and an orange peel. It looked beautiful and so I ordered one. My husband’s eyebrows rose.

The waitress called it a Grilled Grape Martini. I called delicious! And, so I had another. That summer I sampled flavored martinis at every restaurant in New Hampshire and Massachusetts that we visited. I sampled Watermelon martinis, Lemon drop martinis, Key Lime Martinis (heavenly!), Pomegranate Martinis, Banana Cream martinis, Godiva Chocolate Martinis, and probably a dozen more.  Anyway, you get the picture. I now know a good martini when I taste one.

At one of our gathering my friends, Carol Evans and Linda Penney, dubbed me the Martini Mama. This started me thinking about a fun way to celebrate our mutual love of martinis. I created the Martini Mama t-shirts, to share with my girlfriends at our next Martini tasting party. They are also available in my Shop and soon I’ll be adding greeting cards, postcard invitations, and more Martini Mama designs.
